PC client accessing Z Server

Picture

This animation shows how a Z39.50 Origin (client) accesses a server across the Internet to retrieve MARC records. Notice that there is a continued connection - a Z Association between the client and server during the interchange.

Clients may have several simultaneous Z-Associations with different servers or the same server with results being sorted at the server or client end - depending on how the Z-client has been designed
