Alabama Virtual Library chooses SIRS.
SIRS Mandarin, Inc. has announced that its award-winning databases have become available to students and citizens throughout the state of Alabama.
The Alabama Virtual Library (AVL), a statewide initiative to ensure access to educational information for Alabama students, teachers and citizens, has added SIRS reference databases SIRS Researcher®, SIRS
Government Reporter®, SIRS Renaissance® and SIRS Discoverer® to its online information services.
Funded by the Alabama Legislature and managed by the Alabama Public Library Service (APLS), AVL provides online database access to public K-12
schools, public libraries, two-year colleges and member institutions of the Network of Alabama Academic Libraries (four-year colleges and universities).
The Alabama Virtual Library and the Alabama Public Library Service are pleased that SIRS has become a partner in providing high quality electronic
information to the students and citizens of Alabama, said Dr. Lamar Veatch, Director of APLS. SIRS represents a unique product that is very well suited to the needs of our students and teachers. We see SIRS as
a critical element in the structure of the Alabama Virtual Library.
SIRS reference databases contain thousands of full-text articles and graphics from almost 6,000 domestic and international newspapers,
magazines, journals and U.S. government publications. Database topics include global issues, economics, the environment, business, science, health, history, society, U.S. government legislation, culture and the arts
and humanities.

Indianapolis schools to be automated with SIRS Mandarin M3
76 public Indianapolis, Indiana schools will be automating their library collections with the SIRS Mandarin M3 Library Automation
System. SIRS Mandarin was selected the library automation vendor of choice by the Indianapolis Public School District, which serves more than 45,000 students. The contract includes the M3 networkable Core
Package, district-wide Internet access and training. The school district also plans to convert approximately half a million records contained in its district-wide union file using SIRS Mandarin¹s retrospective
conversion services.
The Indianapolis Public School District is excited about converting our media centers to the M3 system. "It will increase and improve our
opportunities to service and assist our students, staff and community using state-of-the-art software," stated Donna Smith, Program Coordinator of the Indiana Public School District media centers.
Operational with Windows 95, 98 and NT platforms, M3 includes a proprietary full MARC record search engine, networkable software with
unlimited site licensing, Windows functionality and configurable circulation and cataloging features.

Vigo County automates over 30 schools with SIRS Mandarin M3 |

SIRS Mandarin, Inc. has been awarded a contract to provide the SIRS Mandarin M3 Library Automation System to the Vigo County School Corporation in
Terre Haute, Indiana.
According to Brenda Allen, Coordinator of Instructional Materials, SIRS Mandarin M3 was chosen for its networkability and ease of use. "We were
looking for a system that would handle a Wide Area Network of 31 sites, a Union Catalog and a user-friendly screen which would accomodate K-12 students," said Allen.
Operational with Windows 95, 98 and NT platforms, M3 includes networkable software with unlimited site licensing, full Windows
functionality, configurable circulation and cataloging features and a user-friendly multilingual OPAC. M3 incorporates a powerful proprietary, full MARC record search engine, as well as standard, enhanced and visual
search interfaces which allow users to effectively target resources with little assistance from library staff.

Ohio public and private K-12 schools use SIRS
More than 2 Million Students and Educators Gain Access to SIRS Discoverer® Deluxe
SIRS Mandarin, Inc. has announced that SIRS Discoverer Deluxe®, an online reference database for young researchers, is now available to all
K-12 public and private schools in Ohio with access to the World Wide Web. The database can be accessed as a result of an agreement with INFOhio, the Information Network for Ohio Schools, serving more than 2 million
K-12 students and educators throughout the state.
SIRS Discoverer Deluxe is a fun, informative reference database for kids with thousands of articles and graphics from more than 1,200 domestic and
international sources. The database is designed to develop research, reading, writing, language and computer skills among young researchers, and contains three reading and comprehension levels: Easy (grades 1-4),
Moderate (grades 5-7) and Challenging (grade 8 and beyond).
According to Theresa M. Fredericka, Executive Director of INFOhio, the organization chose SIRS Discoverer Deluxe based on its educational content,
interest and level of readability, particularly at the elementary level. SIRS Mandarin is a highly-respected resource that allows INFOhio the opportunity to provide much needed resources to Ohio's students,
said Fredericka. "I am very pleased that, because of the willingness of the Ohio Legislature to provide funding, we have the opportunity to partner with SIRS and can offer this excellent resource to all Ohio
students and educators."
INFOhio is a growing electronic library and information network for Ohio K-12 schools.
By making electronic resources available through INFOhio, the state has taken an important step in ensuring equity of access to information for all of its students and educators.
