Press release: PHILADELPHIA (June 7, 1999)
The international law firm Dechert Price & Rhoads has selected Sirsi Corporation's Unicorn Library Management System to provide employees
with online access to library resources and electronic databases. According to Susan Charkes, systems librarian, the Unicorn system will enable Dechert attorneys to conduct research from their desktops via SIRSI's
WebCat® Online Public Access Catalog. "We also feel that the Unicorn system will have a long life, based on its 20-year history of upgrades without requiring users to change platforms or migrate to a new
system," she added. The Dechert Price & Rhoads library serves more than 400 U.S. associates in seven offices nationwide. In addition to a print collection of 6,500 titles, the library is compiling a growing
collection of electronic resources to aid associates in legal research, Charkes says. "With our current system, attorneys cannot search library holdings or access electronic information sources from their
desktop computers. The SIRSI system will enable us to provide an online catalog that is accessible by all seven of our domestic offices, with convenient gateways to electronic resources and CD-ROM databases. We are
also looking forward to using WebCat to catalog useful Web resources."
Dechert Price & Rhoads, together with Titmuss Sainer Dechert in London, is an integrated international legal practice with more than
550 lawyers in 10 offices throughout the United States, United Kingdom and Europe. The combined practices provide a full range of legal services to major industrial, financial and individual clients throughout the
world.
