The William R. and Norma B. Harvey Library of Hampton University, one of the nation's premier historically black universities, has selected Sirsi Corporation's Unicorn™ Library Management System to provide a Web-based catalog that is accessible throughout campus. According to Loretta O'Brien Parham, Harvey Library director, the SIRSI system will enable the library to fulfill technology goals stated in Hampton University's long-term strategic plan.
"We wanted to ensure that our students, faculty and staff would be able to search the library holdings from desktops, dorm rooms and
offices," Parham explained. "In addition, our faculty and staff compared systems from five different vendors and found the SIRSI interface to be the most intuitive. We also learned that several nearby
research universities have SIRSI systems, including the University of Virginia and the College of William and Mary, so we felt we would be in good company."
The library will offer online access to selected items in its special collections through SIRSI's Hyperion Digital Media Archive. "Some of our
most important resources are the Peabody Collection, which consists of approximately 30,000 items for, by and about African Americans dating as far back as the 18th century. We also have a sizable archive of
clippings, books, and photographs relating to the history and culture of Native Americans and African Americans. In addition to preserving special collections through digitalization, we eventually hope to provide
researchers with immediate access to certain items via our online catalog."

construction, grounds care and power systems equipment, has selected Sirsi Corporation's Unicorn TM Library Management System to automate its corporate library. According to Betty Hagberg, manager of library services, Unicorn will be used to route and manage the company's extensive serials collection.
The Deere & Company Corporate Library serves the library reference needs of John Deere Worldwide. The staff produces news summaries on
competitors, offers desktop access to databases and full-text periodicals via an Intranet and manages a hard copy collection that includes more than 1000 serial titles.
