TLC / CARL rename IMDS and link with Ex-Libris

CARL’s IMDS Completes Evolution To CARL.Solution

Press release: INWOOD, WV, June 15, 2001

The Library Corporation  today announced that the company’s premier automation and management system for large public libraries and consortia has been renamed CARLSolution.  The new name represents the culmination of TLC and CARL’s effort to mine the deep functionality of the classic CARL system using intuitive graphical interfaces.

CARLSolution builds on CARL’s noted success with its Information Management Delivery Systems (IMDS), which was first introduced in 1999.  The product’s new name is indicative of the close working relationship between TLC and CARL, who joined forces as a single entity in July 2000.  The comprehensive approach of CARLSolution includes hardware, software, installation, training, project management, and authority control processing.

Marketplace response to CARL’s fully integrated, graphical solution and technology has been strong.  Major libraries currently using CARLSolution include Baltimore County Public, Denver Public, Los Angeles Public and the Phoenix Public Library. CARLSolution also has an international customer base that includes prominent libraries in Asia and New Zealand, notably Singapore National Library Board, Singapore Ministry of Education, and is currently being installed in Wellington City Libraries in New Zealand.

Benefits to participating libraries are numerous.  CARLSolution offers powerful public access interfaces and user-friendly management software for library staff.  The company’s OPAC interfaces include a unicode-based multilingual capability allowing easy toggling between English and many other languages, Kid’s Catalog Web, with over six thousand pre-selected web sites just for children, and YouSeeMore which enables patrons and staff to create a personalized Web portal with information and resources customized according to individual preferences.  Also of note, CARLSolution’s four staff modules including Circulation, Acquisitions, Serials and Cataloging, provide flexible options to accommodate specific workflow and policy variations.

In making today’s announcement, Annette Bakhtiar, CEO at TLC/CARL, stated, “In developing CARLSolution we partnered with some of the busiest libraries in the world to deliver powerful functionality, user-friendly interfaces and streamlined navigation.  The net result is a product that increases productivity, improves workflow and reduces training needs.”

Ex-Libris to use TLC.Connect toolkit

INWOOD, WV, June 12, 2001

TLC/CARL today announced that the company’s state-of-the-art interlibrary loan toolkit has been selected by Ex Libris.

The TLC software, named LibraryConnect, is a middleware solution that powers ILL management functions. The product allows developers to build ISO standard ILL applications on heterogeneous platforms with hardware, operating system, network and protocol level independence.  LibraryConnect enables the fast and efficient development and deployment of ILL management, document delivery and resource sharing applications.

Users of TLC’s ILL toolkit range from major libraries to other automation vendors, notably The National Library of Medicine, The National Library of Canada, CISTI, and Mankato State University (MNSUC-PALS), and automation vendors Pigasus and RLG.

In making today’s announcement, Annette Bakhtiar, President and CEO for TLC, stated, “TLC has a strong history in ILL implementation that we continue to enhance.  Our latest approach delivers a software tool that provides quick, easy and seamless messaging transactions for resource sharing and document delivery. We are pleased to be working with Ex Libris to bring ILL solutions to an even broader market.”
