Innovative in Canada - and partnerships

Innovative have won the University of Ottawa from epixtech and announce partnership with MuseGlobal

Major Canadian Universities choose Millennium

Press release: June 11, 2001

Innovative Interfaces Inc, announced that the University of Ottawa and Carleton University, the two universities in Ottawa, Ontario, will both install Millennium library automation systems.

"Innovative Interfaces was chosen because we felt it offered the best solution in working towards our objective to empower our students and library users. My Millennium will become a prime mover in attaining this goal," said Richard Greene, Chief Librarian at the University of Ottawa Library.

The University of Ottawa is Canada's largest bilingual university and one of its leading comprehensive, research-intensive institutions.  The University of Ottawa Library Network serves nearly 25,000 students and consists of three libraries.  The libraries house a total of 4.5 million physical items, including: 1 million monographs; 9,000 current periodical titles; 1.3 million microforms; tens of thousands of music scores, sound recordings, and audiovisual items; hundreds of thousands slides, air photos, maps, and government publications; and innumerable electronic resources.

The Carleton University Library is a member of the Center for Research Libraries (CRL) and supports Carleton University's academic programs, which are focused on public affairs and management, high technology, and core arts and sciences. The library maintains a collection of over 3 million items together with access to a wide range of resources held by its partner institutions, notably the Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information. Carleton's suite of electronic resources is expanding rapidly through consortial activities at the national, provincial, and regional levels.

Martin Foss, University Librarian at Carleton University Library, said, "Among other things, Millennium will allow our patrons to customize their own front-end Web pages to the library system based on a user-defined profile and create a portal to the universe of scholarly information.  Millennium uses Java and Web browsers, integrates effectively with Web-based technologies, and represents a major reengineering of our current system to provide enhanced functionality to both users and staff."

"We are delighted with the opportunity to work with the University of Ottawa and Carleton University, two prestigious libraries in Canada's capital. We look forward to long and successful relationships with both these institutions," said Jerry Kline, President and CEO at Innovative.

MuseGlobal to power Innovative’s MAP product

Press release: June 13, 2001

Innovative Interfaces Inc, announced a partnership with MuseGlobal, a division of EduLib. MuseGlobal's technology will be used to power MetaFind, a component of Innovative's MAP (Millennium Access Plus) product.

"We're very pleased to be working with Innovative Interfaces.  Innovative has always been a leader in their field, and this partnership represents an opportunity for our companies to jointly provide enhanced services to customers," said Kate Noerr, CEO at MuseGlobal.

MAP is a highly integrated solution that manages access to information resources, guiding patrons and staff to Internet content quickly. It is made up of three key features: Web Access Management, WebBridge, and MetaFind. Web Access Management is a remote-patron authentication tool that links patrons anywhere in the world directly to external Web servers and databases. WebBridge, a contextual-resource linking tool, connects users directly from the bibliographic record display in the Web OPAC and Millennium modules to related resources such as full-text articles, book reviews, or book jacket images.  Finally, MetaFind is a universal search interface that allows access to multiple resources with a single search, returning all results in a consistent interface.

Powered by technology from MuseGlobal, MetaFind will enable patrons to search the library's wealth of information resources through a single information gateway.  This provides users with a more efficient and effective way to search, retrieve, and use information from multiple and varied sources such as library catalogs, index and abstracting services, full-text databases, electronic journals, image databases, publishers' systems, and more.

"Our alliance with MuseGlobal will enhance MAP MetaFind, providing our libraries with the benefits of easy and robust searching of their digital collections in a simple Web-based environment," said Laurie Davidson, Product Manager at Innovative.

MAP MetaFind will be in beta test later this year.
