June 16, 2001 - Chicago, IL. Ex-Libris has announced the signing of a contract with the University of California Davis for the implementation of the ALEPH 500 ILS system, MetaLib and SFX. ALEPH will support the core functions and services of the General Library, including: online public access catalog, cataloging and authority control, acquisitions and serials control, circulation and reserves, interlibrary loan and document delivery, and preservation control. “The University of California, Davis selection of ALEPH 500, MetaLib and SFX is yet another affirmation for all of us at Ex Libris, that our approach of close collaboration and responsiveness to the needs of libraries is what librarians are seeking” said Carl Grant, President of Ex Libris (USA). “Coupled with California Digital Library’s selection of Ex Libris to supply the replacement system for Melvyl, the users of the libraries at the University of California, Davis are soon to experience a far more powerful and customizable experience in accessing information resources.” The conversion to the new catalog will begin immediately and is expected to complete in March 2002. The system will run on a SUN server and will support 250 staff and 250 PAC users. About The University of California, Davis UC Davis is a major research university enrolling more than 25,000 students. Five libraries constitute the General Library of the University of California, Davis: the Peter J, Shields Library, Physical Sciences & Engineering Library (PSE), Carlson Health Sciences Library, Medical Center Library, and the Agricultural and Resource Economics Library. The research collections include over 2.6 million volumes associated with 1.8 million titles. The libraries also have significant collections of microforms, manuscripts, pictorial materials, maps and smaller collections of audio visual and electronic materials in various formats. The combined UC Davis library holdings, including the General Library, NRLF, and campus units are represented in the MELVYL Catalog and Periodicals databases that form the University of California’s system-wide union catalog.
