Copyright Clearance Center's 'Click-Thru Licensing' enables library automation services and other online information providers to streamline copyright permissions. Docutek Information Systems will use CCC'S Click-Thru Licensing to give libraries and universities instant web access to e-reserve permissions. Press Release:DANVERS, Mass.-June 15, 2001 Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC), the world's largest licensing agent for text reproduction rights, today announced Click-Thru Licensing, which enables publishers and other online information providers to streamline copyright permissions for their customers. Docutek Information Systems, Inc. will use Click-Thru Licensing to help librarians, academics and other customers of its Web-based ERes service get instant permission to use copyrighted material in electronic reserves and distance learning. ``Our customers have been clamoring for quick and easy copyright licensing for their e-reserve materials,'' said Dr. Philip Kesten, Docutek's vice president and co-founder. ``Click-Thru Licensing is the perfect solution, letting them clear copyrighted content and post it on ERes all at one time.'' Docutek's ERes service enables librarians and academic faculty to post articles, book chapters and other copyrighted content on the Web for use in electronic reserves and distance learning. In the past, the process could be delayed by many weeks because ERes users also had to contact individual publishers, authors or their licensing agents for permission to post the copyrighted content. Click-Thru Licensing can reduce this time-consuming process to a matter of minutes by integrating CCC's copyright permissions service into the ERes service. ``CCC's Click-Thru Licensing is a quick, low-cost way to enhance customer service by giving one's Web site visitors instant, point-and-click access to copyright permissions,'' said Bruce Funkhouser, CCC's vice president of business operations. ``Publishers, library automation services and others that serve knowledge professionals can use Click-Thru Licensing to integrate their Web offerings with CCC's permissions services for general, academic, library and corporate use of copyrighted works.''
