Open Text’s Open Interchange Architecture (OIA) has made this innovative partnership possible. Recently
introduced, the OIA supports the further extension of Livelink to integrate with third party portal development frameworks. Ensuring interoperability, the OIA makes use
of industry standards—XML for data interchange and CORBA for distributed computing. The openness of the OIA facilitates a new method of winning customers, shifting corporate focus from competition to collaboration.
Integration between Oracle Portal and Livelink is achieved by leveraging myLivelink®, a
collaborative knowledge portal for e-business applications that gives users a personalized interface to Livelink. myLivelink information access controls are exposed as portlets, reusable
interface components that provide access to Web-based resources, within Oracle Portal. Since administration and configuration of Livelink controls are provided directly from Oracle Portal,
customers are able to take advantage of myLivelink’s best-of-breed portal access to Livelink without having to create or support custom Oracle portlets.
Facilitating the creation of highly scalable collaborative applications, myLivelink’s distributed
architecture spans multiple portal servers and Livelink instances. The combination of Oracle Portal, part of the Oracle Internet Platform, with Open Text’s Livelink offers organizations a
comprehensive platform for collaboration, content management, data warehousing, business intelligence, application integration, and mobile computing.
“We are pleased with the new partnership between Oracle and Open Text,” said Jeremy Burton,
Oracle Senior Vice President, Product and Services Marketing. “By integrating the Livelink knowledge management solution with Oracle Portal, Open Text customers can have access to
Oracle’s portal infrastructure that offers a secure, organized, and personalized view of the business information, Web content, and applications essential to knowledge workers. In addition,
Oracle customers can leverage the robust collaborative capabilities of Livelink, including workflow, enterprise group scheduling, and virtual project workspaces, through Oracle Portal.
“Our agreement with Oracle emphasizes the high scalability of the Open Interchange
Architecture,” said Andrew Pery, Vice President of Global Marketing, Open Text. “Over 50% of our installed customer base already employ Oracle technology, the leading e-business software
provider. Through collaboration and cooperation, the OIA allows us to provide joint customers with a single point of access to all of the corporate knowledge, content, legacy applications and
structured information warehoused in the Livelink repository. By partnering with Oracle, we further strengthen our leadership in collaborative e-business applications.”
About Oracle Portal:
Oracle Portal (the next generation release of Oracle WebDB) combines an extensible portal
framework with self-service Web publishing to form the infrastructure that e-businesses need to build and manage enterprise-class portals. Oracle Portal is a browser-based software
environment for building and deploying enterprise portals. It provides a secure, manageable framework for delivering access to distributed software services and information resources. The
easy-to-use portal interface offers an organized, personalized view of the business information, web content, and applications needed by each user. Self-service publishing features eliminate
webmaster bottlenecks by allowing end users to post and share any kind of document or web content with other users anywhere in the world. The deployment architecture is optimized for
scalability and security, and allows for centralized administration of all portal services through a browser. In addition to its core portal development and management features, Oracle Portal
provides an extensible framework for integrating applications and business information. The framework is based on Oracle's unique portlet technology. Portlets are reusable interface
components that provide access to web-based resources. Any web page, application, business intelligence report, syndicated content feed, hosted software service or other resource can be
accessed through a portlet, allowing it to be personalized and managed as a service of Oracle Portal.
