TLC extends into Malaysia with ITS.MARC

October 2000

INWOOD, WV, October 09, 2000--The Library Corporation (TLC), a leading innovator in library automation and cataloging technology, today announced that it has expanded its international presence by launching a mirror installation of the company's highly regarded ITS.MARC database collection in Malaysia, including server and locally-based customer support. As a result, librarians in Malaysia will have Web-based access to the same number of MARC records as their U.S.  counterparts.

TLC noted that its partner in Malaysia providing local customer support will be Access Dunia, SDN BHD, a subsidiary of the iGroup, which is well known for its quality of service in the region. Subscribers can access these records online at: itsmarc.accessdunia.com.my.

With today's development, TLC continues to broaden its Internet-based cataloging activities and further build on its International presence. In July 1997, the company first introduced ITS.MARC - an innovative service that allows any user, regardless of cataloging experience or training, Web access to TLC's extensive MARC record database.  In May of this year, TLC introduced Asian MARC, which expanded the ITS.MARC database to include 340,000 Chinese, Japanese and Korean MARC records available for cataloging.  Currently, the unduplicated ITS.MARC core records provided by TLC is approximately 12 million.

In making today's announcement, TLC CEO Annette Bakhtiar stated, "Today's professional library environment has become truly global, and with it, instant access to current records from virtually any geographic location is no longer a luxury. It's an absolute necessity.  That is precisely why TLC continues to invest substantial time, capital and resources to bring an international product - with exceptional service - to libraries worldwide."

Continued Ms.  Bakhtiar, "Growth in the Asian market has been particularly swift.  We recognize this region's great need for cutting-edge technology and superior support in cataloging delivery, and are answering that call by increasing international staff and broadening access to our exceptional database collection."
