Aleph 500 wins Colorado consortium

October 2000

 July 8, 2000 – Chicago, IL.

Ex-Libris (USA) announced today that a contract has been signed with the Pathfinder and Three Rivers Library Service  Systems for the purchase and installation of ALEPH 500. These library systems are acting on behalf of the five other regional library systems in Colorado.  The project’s primary goals are to provide cataloging

This is Ex Libris’ first public library win in the USA and also marks out a clear problem for Taos which has failed to make the impact that its futuristic object oriented designers would have hoped.

Further problems for DRA have emerged as Harvard withdraw from negotiations for Taos.

and record-hosting services at no cost to Colorado libraries and schools. Serving as a cataloging utility for all libraries in the consortium and as a statewide OPAC, ALEPH will replace the currently installed DRA Taos system. Three Rivers and Pathfinder will also use ALEPH as their integrated library system.

“We selected ALEPH 500 because of its power and flexibility in supporting the sophisticated cataloging environment  represented by our consortium,” said John Campbell, Director of the Pathfinder Library System.

“This is an exciting project for Ex Libris,” said Russ McDonald, Vice President of Sales/Marketing at Ex Libris (USA), “because it exploits some of the truly unique characteristics of ALEPH 500 in supporting a complex environment.“

The system will run on a Sun Enterprise 250 server and will initially support 40 concurrent users. A rapid increase in the  number of users is planned. The system is scheduled to go live in early 2001.
