DS sign sole UK / Ireland distributorship

November 2000

AMLIB was seen for the first time in the UK at the LIS show in June. Subsequently, InfoVision signed Brodart in the US and now DS in the UK and Ireland. A prospective deal with Ramesys (Professional Services) Ltd.- suppliers of Genesis fell through earlier this year. This will give DS a product for the smaller public libraries in the increasingly competitive UK public library market place where the likes of Innovative - (see Shirley Adams joins Innovative) - and Ex-Libris are anxious for a slice of the market.

DS, the UK library system specialist, has taken on the sole distributorship for the UK and Ireland of AMLIB, the Australian library management system from InfoVision Technology Pty.

DS are the developers of the Galaxy 2000 system used by a third of UK public libraries and CALM 2000 for archives, libraries, museums and records management applications.  AMLIB will broaden its range of solutions for libraries.

AMLIB is a sophisticated library management system with over 150 world-wide implementations in corporate, academic, and public libraries.  As a fully Windows-based client server system supporting distributed databases over multiple library sites, AMLIB is Z39.50 & MARC compliant and fits into the DS product range in between Galaxy 2000 and CALM 2000.

DS will support AMLIB running on either Microsoft Windows

98/2000/NT and SQL Server, or UNIX and Oracle. It is fully Internet and Intranet-enabled, allowing library members and guests to interrogate and browse the catalogue, place reservations and view current loans and history. Its modern design is reflected in features like sending overdue notices to selected borrowers via e-mail, having multiple modules open at the same time, and taking backup copies of data without shutting down the system.

Nigel Pegg, Managing Director of DS, is sure that “the addition of this new prestigious product to the DS portfolio is a major step in consolidating our position as the leading supplier of library systems to the UK & Ireland. AMLIB is destined to make an important contribution to the plans we have to keep DS library products at the forefront of library technology for many years to come.”
