Endeavor and Elsevier merger

A merger between has been announced between systems vendor Endeavor and publishing group Elsevier.  The purpose of this combination is quoted as “to broaden delivery of electronic content throughout the academic and research library marketplace.”  All Endeavor staff to remain in place. "This transaction will not detract from our corporate focus states CEO Jane Burke”.details              

Ex Libris to market SFX

Ex Libris has announced that the company has acquired the sole rights to the SFX Reference Linking Software Solution from the University of Gent (Belgium).  Ex Libris is establishing an independent Information Services Division of Ex Libris (USA) Inc. that will be responsible for the development, sales and support of the SFX service. What is SFX? - details.  Other sales: Aleph in Germany and London and a unique gift to Cambodia.

People: Key industry staff decide to move

Several key industry figures have moved jobs this month - in the UK Epixtech bosses Chris Ezekiel and Jo Richardson resign.  Matt Goldner - head of Geac library development - joins FDI along with Don Chvatal. Jenny Walker joins Ex Libris from SilverPlatter to set up Boston Office.  Jim Burton and other key Talis managers leave to set up new company.

Endeavor Universal Catalog and Australian sale.

5 Georgian libraries are installing Universal Catalogue to aid regional co-operation.  A major Australian defence education institute chooses Voyager.               details

Sirsi - another sale in China + major UK university

Sirsi continue in their efforts in China with a 3rd sale.  Other sales in US include the US Airforce and Anchorage schools and in the UK another major University.  details

EOSi Q series new release

EOSi has released an new version of their Q Series - Version 2.003.  new features include: location and date range specification controls for the Bibliographic MARC Export option and further integration of the Serials and Circulation modules. Serials reporting has been enhanced along with a system wide set-up option to allow the user to define their call number hierarchy. 

Also included in this Q Series maintenance release is an upgrade to Excalibur Technology's RetrievalWare 6.6, the Q Series' search engine, and additional program updates requested by Q Series users.

Surpass adds Web publish feature

Users of the Surpass library automation suite of applications can now publish reports to the web or save reports in other standard formats.  With the release of Surpass Central version 1.07, the core component of Surpass, users will find that all report screens now have an "export" button to choose to save the report in HTML for publishing to the web.  To make long reports more manageable, Surpass Central will even create a series of web pages with automatic links for navigation between pages.  This also makes pages load more quickly.   more from Surpass

Hannover chooses Concerto

The Landeshauptstadt Hannover has selected Concerto™ from ALS International (ALSi) for the re-automation of its libraries.

Work on the specification and implementation of the system has already begun. The ALSi system will comprise some 25 branch servers and approximately 300 registered users linked to a central data server.

This site joins Scotland’s South Ayrshire as an early adopter of the Concerto system from ALSi

Dialog sells on-line business

Dialog Corporation which was formed when MAID took over Knight -Ridder in 1997 and has had a rough ride recently, has sold the core on-line Dialog and DataStar services to Thomson Corporation for $275M. details
