Fenwood sales update - Libero, Ultra*Net and UnipriNT

Fenwood has found it tough going in the UK with the Libero LMS since its launch here in 1997 - but is now making progress.  The European market has been much more fruitful with over 25 sites - mostly in the German speaking countries and some in the Netherlands and Italy. Other news from Fenwood includes their CD-ROM networking and Print control solutions.  Libero Review

Bronglais postgraduate library selects Libero

Bronglais Postgraduate Medical Library is based in Aberystwyth.  Fenwood have been working closely with Patricia Chapman, the Senior Librarian, over the New Year. “Fenwood staff are keen to configure Libero to suit the requirements of an individual library,” she said,  “and they offer excellent support for implementation.”

Ian Corns, the project manager, was pleased with Tricia’s comments. “The implementation has been handled magnificently by all staff concerned, especially considering the short timescale. Everyone is particularly pleased with the data conversion. From the simple twenty field records provided, we have managed to create full USMARC records with detailed holdings containing over sixty distinct fields, thus greatly improving the bibliographic integrity of the Bronglais database as well as its intrinsic value.”

When asked what key improvements he could see to the operation of the library, he added, “Of the many benefits Libero brings, two stand out. Firstly, the facility to quickly write professional reports using all the new fields will enable staff to offer a far more effective service to their users, especially with the new web-based reporting facilities we have recently introduced. Secondly, we are expecting an increase in the library’s profile and use as a result of the WebOPAC. This will put the catalogue on everyone’s desktop. The latest version of WebOPAC is due in April.

More UK public libraries select Ultra*Net

The London Borough of Waltham Forest, Nottinghamshire Libraries and  the NELLIE (North East London Learning Information Exchange ) consortium of the London Boroughs of Islington, Camden and Hackney have all selected Ultra*Net to provide network  access to their CD-ROM collections.

Nottinghamshire will be rolling out Ultra*Net to sixteen libraries within the county during the first quarter of 2000.

NELLIE will be combining CD-ROM with web access to a wide range of community information.

Waltham Forest are using a combination of Ultra*Net and Citrix MetaFrame to provide web access to their CD-ROM collection.

UnipriNT to control printing at the University of West of England

After successful trials in the faculty of Built Environment the UWE have selected Pharos UnipriNT to manage student and staff printing enterprise wide.

Citing the quality of the software and the high level of support received from Fenwood and Pharos during the trials as the driving forces in the university’s decision, John Moorhouse of the university’s ITS Strategic Project team  said “UnipriNT fits particularly well with our strategic NT rollout; it will be used to manage the printing for around 32,000 students using 2,500 PCs on the university network”

UWE joins the universities of Glamorgan, Surrey and Abertay as users of the Pharos network resource management suite which includes UnipriNT for printer management, ReserveIT for the reservation and management of resources such as network PCs and NetIT for managing access to defined areas of an enterprise network.
