Brown University

Emeryville, California Innovative Interfaces Inc, a leader in information technology for libraries, will
install its Millennium library automation system at Brown University, a member of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), a not-for-profit membership organization comprising the leading research libraries in
North America.
Howard Pasternack, Library Systems Officer at Brown University, said, "Innovative was the vendor for our previous system that was acquired in
1994 and has consistently served us well. Continuing our relationship, we decided to upgrade to Millennium, which integrates effectively with Web-based technologies.
"Millennium represents a major re-engineering of our current system to use Java and Web browsers, providing enhanced functionality to both
users and staff. After evaluating the existing products on the market, we believe that we will be well served by Innovative's Millennium system." The Brown campus houses seven libraries containing more
than three million volumes. This includes rare books, manuscripts, special collections, archives, art slides, music, and electronic resources.
The special collections at Brown, particularly the Harris Collection of American Poetry and Plays, are of international repute. The Brown libraries serve approximately 7,500 undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff.
Founded in 1764, Brown University was the third college in New England and the seventh in America--and the only one that welcomed students of all
religions. A commitment to diversity and intellectual freedom remains a hallmark of the University today. Brown University's library catalog, Josiah, can be found at http://library.brown.edu/.
Brown University is the 23rd ARL library to have chosen to upgrade to Millennium. Others include: Dartmouth College, Michigan State
University, New York Public Library, University of New Mexico, and the University of Washington.

Black Gold Cooperative Library System Chooses Millennium
|
|
Emeryville, CA-Innovative Interfaces, a leading supplier of Web-based library solutions, will install
its Millennium library automation system at the Black Gold Cooperative Library System, a joint-powers-agency that consists of seven public libraries covering over 8,951 square miles in Southern California.
Ann Robb, Chair of the Black Gold Administrative Council and Director of the Paso Robles
Public Library said, "Of all the systems reviewed, the consensus was that Millennium is the most feature-rich and state-of-the-art system. We are excited about moving to Millennium because it
will enable our libraries to offer significantly better services to our patrons."
Carol Keator, Director of Santa Barbara Public Library, said, "We're looking forward to
transitioning to Innovative and enjoying the robust features of the Millennium system."
The Black Gold Cooperative Library System was formed in 1964 to provide shared cataloging,
delivery, and second-level reference services, in addition to joint training for the improvement of local reference service to approximately 1,400,700 people in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties.
The Cooperative shares a circulation system, giving patrons access to over 1,391,000 holdings
in a joint online catalog. Six of the seven Black Gold member libraries will use Millennium as their shared library automation system. These libraries are: Blanchard Community Library in Santa
Paula, Lompoc Public Library, Paso Robles Public Library, San Luis Obispo City/County Library, Santa Barbara Public Library, and Santa Maria Public Library. The Ventura County Library has
its own library automation system that will be linked to Black Gold's new Millennium system.
"Millennium has the power and flexibility well-suited to handle the complex needs of consortia,"
said Jerry Kline, Innovative's President and CEO. "The year 2000 has seen Millennium selected by a number of consortia-be they public, academic, or of mixed type. Black Gold joins other new
Millennium consortia that include CLIC in Minnesota and SEALS in South Africa."
